8 Female Skaters That Are Better Than You’ll Ever Be

From dropping 540 McTwists to winning multiple X Games gold medals, these ladies would show you up any day

“Skateboarding is not for girls at all,” Nyjah Huston told Thrasher magazine back in 2013. We happen to disagree.

Women have been ripping on skateboards since the 1960s. You only need to look at these female skate legends who’ve changed history – from Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins to Elissa Steamer – to see what we mean.

Now, we’ve decided to focus on some of the hardest ladies skating today. After watching these clips, you’ll see exactly why skateboarding is definitely for girls.

Alana Smith

First up, Alana Smith. At only 12-years-old, she stomped a 540 McTwist and won a Guiness World Record for “Youngest X Games Medallist”, knocking Nyjah Huston off the top spot.

Alexis stormed onto the scene with her part in Wonderful, Horrible Life in 2002. And then disappeared – to where? Oh you know, she just went off to get a casual degree in architecture before returning to skating and winning gold in the X Games 2012. No biggie.

Lacey Baker

Lacey is fast becoming a modern skate legend. After number of high scores in the X Games, the 22-year-old finally went on to win gold in the street comp this month.

Thrasher described her full part in 2013 film Bombshell as “”one of the best female street/tech parts [they’ve] seen”. You can see why she was tipped as a grom to watch back in 2008.

When Leticia first arrived on the American skate scene aged 13, she didn’t speak a word of English.

Hailing from the uneven streets of São Paulo, she convinced her dad to let her move to California and she never looked back.

She’s now gone on to win four X Games medals (two gold, one silver, one bronze) while picking up some major sponsors along the way including Nike SB, Volcom and Oakley.

Watch her in action here.
