Sponsored feature: You may have heard about the powder, but Whistler has more secrets up its sleeve

To most action sports fans, Whistler in Canada is a dream destination. Mountain bikers love it’s incredible views and almost limitless trails, but it’s as a ski and snowboard resort that the iconic area is best known.

It sits unchallenged at the top of most peoples must-visit lists, and for good reason. It has endless terrain that’s perfect for every level of rider which means neither you, or anybody you travel with will ever get bored.

But, the area still hosts a few secrets. Here are eight things you didn’t know about Whistler…

Whistler and Blackcomb mountains boast an incredible 8,171 acres (3,307 hectares) of skiable terrain – the most in all of North America. Furthermore, the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb have an incredible mile of vertical shared between them!

So, from perfectly groomed pistes to powder filled bowls to hair-raising couloirs, there really is something for everybody.

2) Record Breaking Lifts

It’s all very well having this wealth of epic terrain, but how do you keep it all connected? With a record breaking lift system! The Whistler and Blackcomb mountains are connected by the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola which shatters long-standing world records for both length and height.

The high-tech Gondola traverses the almost 3 mile distance between the two peaks in just 11 minutes. Enough time to catch a breather before hitting the powder once again.

3) Whistler Has A Village Open Only To Pedestrians

Whistler is well known as one of the most beautiful places on the planet, but this is no accident. The village at the base of the mountains is open only to pedestrians, meaning there is no congestion or pollution from cars, lorries and other traffic.

In the award-winning village, you’re never far from shops, restaurants and nightclubs, as well as luxurious spas, a movie theatre and so much more. There’s everything you could possibly need, whatever season you visit.

4) There’s More To Whistler Than Skiing And Snowboarding

Whistler is, of course, synonymous with skiing and snowboarding. The perfect pistes and epic powder make the area ideal. But there’s more going on that just sliding down a hill on a couple of planks of poplar.

The area also boasts amazing sleigh rides, snow tubing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and snowshoeing at the nearby Lost Lake. Whatever season you go, the peaks of Whistler will give you views unrivalled anywhere in the word.
