Why We’re Frothing With Excitement For This Weekend’s Downhill World Cup In Canada

These videos will get you as excited for Mont-Sainte-Anne as we are...

Course Preview

After a six week break that felt a whole lot longer, it’s time to dive back into Downhill World Cup action in Mont-Saint-Anne, Canada.

Check out the hilarious course preview from Claudio Caluori. In between his brilliant running commentary and cheerful whooping, you’ll see the course is looking gnarly as hell – there are some insane rock sections and it’s 100m higher than was before.

If fun makes you go faster, Josh Bryceland will be winning every race from now until the end of time.

With the heavens opening on MSA in the past few days, the potential is there for some big bails on the rocks and the jump sections. We should be in for quite a show.

Brosnan Means Business

Troy Brosnan is top of the rankings going into the weekend. The 21-year-old got a debut win at Fort William and he’s been consistent all season, taking third in the most recent race in Leogang as well.

The Specialized Racing rider released the edit below a few days back, and you’re going to want to watch it. There are some big lines and a whole lot of sick riding…

As you’ll have seen, the message behind Troy’s edit is that fun makes you go faster. The only problem for the Australian is that if this is true, Josh Bryceland will surely be winning every race from now until the end of the time.

The Santa Cruz Syndicate lad is well known for his sense of humour – check out some of his crazy tweets here – and he can ride big too, taking his first World Cup win in Leogang in June.

With the heavens opening on MSA in the past few days, the potential is there for some big bails.

Of course, it’s not just the young guys who will be challenging either. Stevie Smith won last year, narrowly edging out Gee Atherton in the final section, and has been recovering well from his injury. Aaron Gwin is only 29 points behind his teammate Brosnan at the top as well, and you can never rule out Sam Hill or Greg Minaar.

You’ve got to feel like Danny Hart is due a win soon too. The field is so wide open.

All Eye’s On Manon

In the women’s contest it’s going to be all eyes on Manon Carpenter, another rider who won her first World Cup title this year and is now sitting top of the leaderboard, 90 points clear of last year’s MSA winner Emmeline Ragot.

Manon got her first win in South Africa and became the only woman to win twice this year in Leogang, beating Rachel Atherton – who was still suffering with illness – into first place. Rachel should be back to full fitness for the weekend, so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes!
