Freediving Videos | 6 Best Freediving Videos On The Internet

The most influential, creative, inspiring freediving videos on the internet...

Freediving videos are growing and growing in popularity on the internet.

From the brilliant Guilaume Nery setting his dives to music, to the Performance Freediving crew and their choreographed dives – it’s become obvious that there’s a lot more to freediving than simply descending and ascending in the ocean.

Whether you want to find out more about freediving in the UK and further afield, or you want to check out which freedivers hold their breath the longest and dive the deepest, these videos will be well worth a few minutes of your time.

Watch out though, they’re pretty addictive. Get ready to lose an hour of your life…..

 

1) Guillaume Néry

This has got to be the most famous freediving video of all time, Guillaume Nery’s videos take freediving and turn it into an art form.

Along with his girlfriend and fellow freediver Julie Gautier, he uses water and the ocean to trick the eye and the mind of the viewer. 

Nery says he aims to “put in image the visual closeness of 2 universes –  water and air, ocean and space.”

2)William Winram

If you want to learn about competitive freediving and the people who dive the deepest and for the longest amount of time, this is a great video for you.

Canadian Freediver William Winram successfully attempted a World Record Dive, on a single breath of air, in the discipline of Variable Weight to a depth of 145m.

This dive took months of preparation and was officially ratified by the International Freediving Federation AIDA International.

Crazy, crazy diving!

3) Performance Freediving

This underwater chase scene is a great example of how freediving can be used as a way of expression, a lot like interpretive dance!

If you want to be able to freedive like this however, you need to go to a course and learn the basics, as well as getting the right kit.

The freedivers in this video run their own classes, in case you want to learn straight from the masters….

4)Aaron Gallagher

Freediving can be dangerous and even the professionals often come into problems on deeper and loner dives.

Slowly sinking to the bottom of the ocean floor, an unconscious Aaron Gallagher was rescued by his diving partner, and best friend Jack Strickland.

After suffering what is referred to as a ‘shallow water blackout’ the horrific images of a man moments from death were caught on camera. The film in places is hard to watch, the two men fight against the physical and emotional trauma to survive.

A really insightful look into the world of freediving.

5) Natalia Molchanova

While this may not look like the most exciting video on the list. It’s one of the most interesting.

Molchanova breaks the record of dynamic no fins (DNF) at the individual AIDA Pool World Championships in Belgrade. Swimming 182 meters underwater on June 27th, she breaks the record by 19 meters.

Sadly, Molchanova is thought to have passed away on a dive that went wrong last year, but we’ll always have the records she conquered to remember her by…

6) Hanli Prinsloo

One of our favourite athletes here at MPORA, Hanli Prinsloo is a world-class freediver who has left the competition circuit search of a different kind of ocean adventure.

Follow her as she starts an incredible trip from South Africa to Mozambique, in search of, what else? Sharks.

That’s right, Hanli likes swimming with the ocean’s apex predators and there is no better place to do it than her native South Africa.

In this episode she heads to Miller’s Point to swim with the rare and ancient seven gill sharks, prehistoric remnants that are as docile as they are weird looking.

Swim with Hanli as she dives into the depths on one lung full of air to search out these strange and enigmatic creatures.
