How Did This Guy Ice Climb Up The Most Famous Waterfall In The World?

What did you do in your lunch hour? This guy took on Niagara Falls

Last year, we interviewed ice climbing legend Will Gadd about his epic climb up the 131m Helmcken Falls. When we spoke to him, he said he couldn’t really disclose his plans for the coming year…. Well, it turns out he was planning to climb the most famous waterfall in the world, Niagara Falls in Canada. “At one point I was behind the water, climbing on ice that froze behind the falls. I got a whole lot of Niagara down my neck!” Ever year, 20 million people come to visit the 45m falls which straddle the border between the USA and Canada. 150,000 tonnes of water flows over the falls at up to 100kph, so you can only really climb this beast when it’s frozen. Luckily for Gadd, the temperatures were just right. It took him about an hour to reach the top, but it was no easy climb. You can check out the full breakdown of Gadd’s climb on Red Bull website here.
