What Happens When You Fly Through The Eye Of A Hurricane? These Guys Found Out…

These scientists flew a plane through a hurricane eye wall to reach the centre of the beast...

Flying a plane into the eye of a hurricane may sound like something that only happens when an F-list movie star is in front of the cameras, but it’s actually a more regular occurrence than you’d think.

In fact, for this team of ridiculously chilled out scientists, it’s pretty much just part of the day job.

As you’ll see in the video up top, these guys fly into the eye of approaching hurricanes in order to judge their strength, direction and the future patterns of the beast involved.

To do so, they have to penetrate the eye wall of the hurricane – the strongest and most violent part of the natural wonder – and they face winds of over 120mph when they do so.

It’s a pretty special insight into something most people thought was only possible through CGI and the controversial acting abilities of Nicholas Cage…

Before flying up and jetting through, the team strap down all the equipment onboard (to prevent being slapped in the face with fifteen laptops and all), and then sit tight as they power through to the “absolute peace” that awaits in the centre.

Check out the video if you haven’t already. It’s a pretty special insight into something most people thought was only possible through CGI, special effects and the controversial acting abilities of Nicholas Cage.
