We all love a good time-lapse, it makes us feel like we are bigger than time itself; that we can transcend the space-time continuum like an omnipotent deity (let’s call it ‘The Gawd Complex’). This time-lapse from a man named Andy Davidhazy is one truly breathtaking example of the form, taking us on a 2660-mile journey in the space of just four minutes.

Davidhazy, which sounds like something Beckham would say after a night of craft ale drinking, shot the photographs that make up the time-lapse while travelling along the Pacific Crest Trail. Starting at the Mexico border, near the small town of Campo, he finished the epic hike just across the Canadian border in a place called Manning Park.

The journey took roughly five months to complete, and Davidhazy lost about fifty pounds of body weight in the process. Andy, which seems a bit overfamiliar when it’s written down, revealed that he decided to snap a photo of himself every mile as a way to simultaneously document the physical transformation of the environment and himself.

It’s a dazzling watch, one that makes us want to put on a pair of dusty hiking boots and head for the nearest trail. There’s a whole world out there, just waiting to be explored. So thanks Andy, thanks for reminding us about the spirit of adventure and the joy of making journeys. Consider us well and truly inspired.
