Howies auction for Skateistan

Kel Verbiest Kel Verbiest

This is one of those times where you sit at a computer for a good while to write out a detailed article about something interesting, and then don’t get the chance to hit publish. SO… because of that fact, I’m going to post up what I had written just because I can but I have to point out the fact that there is more news about this, so make sure you read right to the end.

Howies auction for Skateistan

Here goes…

You may remember about Skateistan from my previous post last month. I spoke about the new shoe collaboration with Fallen and how Skateistan works towards helping kids go to school and teaching them how to skate as well. With an organisation as prolific as this one it was only a matter of time before the big brands started helping out. The Fallen shoe collab is an example of that and to continue the trend is Howies.

After six years of entertaining the Howies team and passing friends, they’ve decided to auction off their mini ramp with all the proceeds going to Skateistan.

It’s up on eBay and the bidding is well underway with the current price at $1,800 (£1.097) and is ending on Bank Holiday Monday. It’s not just the ramp you’ll win either, it also comes with:

- A signed Mike Carroll Girl deck (7 7/8″) & bundle from Form Distribution
- A pair of shoes from Vans (well – a form to send away for your preferred size & style)
- A custom skateboard setup of your choice from Shiner Distribution
- A years subscription to Sidewalk / Kingpin magazines from Factory Media
- A hand-printed lino cut by Droog79

Help spread the word and start bidding if you can! Remember, it’s helping kids in Afghanistan escape any rough times they’re having through skating.

Yep. So that was my post. Unfortunately it didn’t get published in time (even though I’m sure I did. I’m blaming Google and Bill Gates – they’re basically the internet these days) but it didn’t stop the bidding from climbing higher and higher. It was sold over the bank holiday weekend for around £1800, which is an incredible total which will go to Skateistan. Huge pat on the back for Howies for doing this and I’m sure that everyone over at Skateistan will appreciate everything they’ve done.
