Yiwei Zhang Lands World’s First Halfpipe Triple Cork – The Trick Shaun White Couldn’t Stick…

Are you dizzy, blud? This Chinese snowboarder probably is

New tricks in snowboarding are a lot like London buses. You wait forever for one, and all of a sudden a weird looking guy shouts something about war at a passing car before three piss smelling buses turn up at once.

And true to form, after Billy Morgan smashed the Quad Cork 1800 (we’re calling it The Gish), and Max Parrot landed the Switch Quad Underflip (The Crucible), Chinese snowboarder Yiwei Zhang has joined in the fun with another world first.

The 22 year old, has just put down the first ever Triple Cork in a half pipe. Now, you may think that this isn’t as insane as the quads the other fellas were hitting but, believe us, it’s gnarly.

While taking nothing away from Billy and Max’s achievements, both were hitting pretty big kickers, and appeared to have a little more time in the air after their flips were done. We’re only talking fractions of seconds here, but still a tiny, weeny bit of time.

Zhang, however, had no time at all. The margin for error was zero. He just about manages to get the third flip in before he hits the big wall of ice that is the halfpipe. Anything short of spot-on would have been grim.

Aside from sitting it down a little – and it’d take a wang of tool proportions to hold that against Zhang – he stomped it and rode away to what looks like reserved applause from his fellow riders and coaches gathered at the bottom of the ditch. Cheer up fellas, you’ve just witnessed history.
