A 61 Year Old Blind Man has been paid an undisclosed sum by Lancashire police after officers tasered him in the back, believing his walking stick was a Samurai sword.

The elderly man cannot be named for legal reasons and had already suffered a stroke when the incident occurred. Reports suggest that he was walking to his local pub in Chorley, Lancashire to meet up with friends when officers mistook his white stick for a deadly weapon.

Police had earlier received reports of a man in the area waving a large sword. The police officer, standing behind the 61 year old, fired his taser into the victims spinal back, before kneeling on him and handcuffing him as he lay on the ground.

“Lancashire constabulary has accepted that it was a highly regrettable incident which should not have happened,” said solicitor Sophie Khan as the decision had been reached.
