If there’s ever a reason to make sure your surfboards are secured to the roof, this is it.

Three cars crashed in North Devon on Sunday after surfboards flew off the the roof of a moving car, according to the Mid Devon Gazette.

A Renault Megane was heading out of North Devon when two surfboards flew off the roof racks and hit a convertible Triumph Spitfire driving in the opposite direction.

The Triumph was said to have swerved to avoid the boards and collided with a Peugeot.

Both passenger and driver of the Triumph had to be prized from the car by firefighters. They are currently in hospital, with the driver having “sustained very serious injuries considered life changing”.

The Renault driver was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and had a broken wrist and damaged vertebra in his neck, said the Mid Devon Gazette.

Double check those boards are secured, people!
