Finless Surfing? It’s All Going Down At The Slyder Cup 2.0 In Cornwall!

Who said you need fins to have fun?

Finless surfers of the world, rejoice! The second ever Slyder Cup from the guys at Approaching Lines is taking place this Sunday 22 June in Porthtowan, Cornwall.

The competition welcomes anyone who rides bodyboards, bellyboards, handplanes, paipos (wooden bellyboards), mats (like lilos) and more to take part! Basically anything surf craft that doesn’t have a fin.

Last year’s event went down a storm with everyone from UK Pro Surf Champ Alan Stokes to the oldest surfer in Britian, Gwyn Haslock taking part.

Anyone from amateurs to pros can get involved with the competition – they just need to sign up to one of the four comp categories online.

If you’re not of the competitive nature, then you can just go slyde in the free-for-all Expression Session where riders are encouraged to surf, well, anything! Just the kind of thing we like down here at Mpora. Grab a tea tray or a sled, and give it a go.

Entry fee is £7.50, but spectators can come down and watch for free. There’s also a prize for local finless shapers. It looks set to be a day of ridiculous antics, beers and laughter.

Head down this Sunday 22 June 2014 to Porthtowan Beach, Cornwall to watch. Find out more about this year’s Slyder Cup 2.0 by clicking here.
