Snowfall In New York Has Been So Deep, People Can’t Get Out Of Their Houses

Ever heard of 'Lake Effect'? Find out that it's done to New York State...

Have you heard about the gigantic blizzard that’s currently dumping on New York State? Snow is falling over there at an incredible rate, and large chunks of the East coast is blanketed in white stuff. The almighty snowstorm was created by a quirk of nature called Lake Effect.

It’s a regular autumnal occurrence in certain areas of the states. The water in lakes remain relatively warm followin the summer, but then very cold wind bows across the top of it. This difference in temperature creates steam which rises, gets into the clouds, and eventually turns into snow. It’s basically a massive snow canon.

This is exactly what happened in New York State, when the 57 mile wide Lake Eire started producing snow and dumping it on the surrounding area. The results are absolutely incredible.

While these images are undoubtedly breath taking, the snowfall has been devastating for many. There are reports suggesting that ten lives have already been lost, properties have been damaged or destroyed, and businesses closed. The area is also bracing themselves for flooding when the snow begins to melt.

If you’re in the area, or are affected by the mammoth dump, please be safe.
