The US Navy Have Unveiled Their Latest Gadget: A Million Dollar Robot Drone Shark

The GhostSwimmer could be coming to an ocean near you very soon...

It’s six foot long, weighs 100 pounds and it’s controlled by the US Navy. Yep, it’s a torpedo shaped like a shark and moves exactly like one too. Freaky, right?

According to The Inertia, the GhostSwimmer was developed by the US Navy to look like a blue tuna with fish-like movements through the water, making it harder to spot on sonar. It’s controlled by a joystick and can dive as deep as 300ft.

So far, it’s cost US $1 million to develop. That’s a lot of a dollar to spend on a robotic shark. Last year, they moved it into the ‘Rapid Innovation Cell’ in the US Navy’s Office of Naval Research, so sounds like their taking the whole very seriously…
