Warning: Sea Turtle With Straw Up It’s Nose Is Worse Than You Can Possibly Imagine

We can guarantee you'll never litter again after watching this...

Warning: this video is distressing. Whether you like turtles or not. And let’s be perfectly honest for a moment, who doesn’t like turtles?

Seriously though, this does not make for an enjoyable watch. The footage comes from Oceanographers Christine Figgener and Nathan Robinson, who recently saved the endangered male olive ridley sea turtle below in Costa Rica, before posting the video of their efforts earlier this month.

Why did the turtle need saved in the first place? It had a straw up its nose. A plastic straw, no doubt dropped by some ignorant beach-goer who doesn’t believe that their littering actions actually have any impact whatsoever on the wildlife of the world.

It took a full eight-minutes for the 10x12cm plastic straw to be removed from the turtle’s nose, with the animal visibly in pain throughout, before Christine and Nathan disinfected the air passageway with iodine and nursed the turtle back to health. It was later released to return to its life in the wild.

Next time you litter near the beach or the ocean then – or anywhere else for that matter – think twice, and don’t do it. You never know what harm your actions could cause.
