Windsurfing, Kitesurfing & Sailing

Speed, Birds And The Worst Accessory Ever: 6 Weird and Wonderful Wind-Powered Sports

How many of these had you heard of?

There are many legitimately awesome sports that rely on the power of wind. Kite-surfing and Wind-surfing, through to Paragliding and Sailing.

However there are many other weird, wonderful and sometimes horrific sports that appear to be the bastard child of wind power…

1) Kite Buggying

With carbon free style buggies that can get to 50mph in 5.5 seconds, and hang time of up to 30 seconds this sounds amazing… on paper. In practise it just looks a bit weird though doesn’t it?

Still, there are apparently European Freestyle championships for it.

2) Ice-boating

Shiiiit, these things can apparently do 80mph, on blades less than a quarter of an inch thick. What’s more there are official races and championships. We can only imagine how hard bailing on ice at 80mph would feel.

Oh hang on a minute, a crash compilation video? We love the internet…

3) Sand-Sailing

Sailing ‘off-water’ is something that we were vaguely aware existed, but these things can gain serious speed, with proper cornering and races.

Whats more its vintage. Like seriously vintage. This is almost 100 years old.

4) Para-Hawking

Ok so it’s weird, but it’s legitimately amazing. You’re paragliding… with a muthafuckin hawk! It’s got to be hard to think of a manlier feeling than that really…

Except maybe if you had a fine cigar and scotch on the go.

5) This madness in Norway

No mountains? No problem for these wind-fuelled dudes

6) And finally this monstrous creation..

The ‘Kite-Wing’ tries to make a crossover of various sports with windsurfing… but only succeeds in making all of them look super lame.

It can ruin Snowboarding:

It can ruin Skiing:

It can even ruin Longboarding:

But at least their video is super cool…
