The Shocks, Upsets & Action from Winter X-Games 2014

The guy’s snowboarding this year featured the biggest surprises. With Shaun White ditching the X-Games to save himself for the Olympics, as well as young contender, Ayumu Hirano, missing the weekend due to injury, the Superpipe was clear for the first new gold medallist since 2007.

Enter Danny Davis. The bearded American laid it down in the pipe with some huge tricks and awesome switch method. We can’t wait to see if he can hold onto to the top spot in Russia when Shaun White straps in again.

In the Slopestyle, Mark McMorris was expected to continue his run of success having won the last two golds in the event. It was not to be however as Max Parrot finished out on top despite the best efforts of the young Saskatchewan. Parrot went before the defending champion and stomped perfect back to back triple corks that McMorris couldn’t match.

Parrot had already scored his first gold of the weekend as he topped the podium at the Big Air contest on Friday. Yuki Kadono and Stale Sandbech finished second and third respectively with the final field racking up rotations totalling 14,400°.
