Ben Cruz is relatively new on the mountain biking circuit but has already proven that he can keep the pace and even beat those that are more experienced than him. After three years competing in domestic races with WTB/Cannondale team, Cruz is beginning to race on the international scene.
The young American has a strong team around him to give him the best apprenticeship possible. With the likes of Mike Weir and Jason Moeschler as mentors in the WTB/Cannondale setup, Cruz has consistently been a figure on race podiums in Europe in 2013 to add to his previous domestic success.
Cruz hails from Novata, Californa and grew up near to the residence of fellow WTB/Cannondale rider Mark Weir, who introduced him to the team in 2009. Before racing professionally Cruz worked at a local bike shop, spending his days repairing and maintaing bikes and riding his own whenever he got the chance.
Enduro racing is Cruz’s main disclipline; with his young age, it provides a good all-round test to improve his skills going both up and down the hills. As riding style goes, Cruz has got a reputation amongst his fellow riders as being fearless; he loves getting airbourne on the bike, making him one of the most exciting young riders around. Infact, he’s so determined push the boundaries of the bike’s ability, that his team is known to test prototype parts on his bike to see their true limits.
