At 21, Brook Macdonald is one of the rising stars of downhill mountain biking, demonstrated by his impressive silver placing in the Downhill disclipline at the 2013 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup at Fort William in Scotland. Fort William is a track that the young New Zealander seems to perform well at - he managed to step up to the podium with a third placing in the UCI World Cup back in 2011 at the prestigious circuit. It was that year that Macdonald started to make a name for himself on the international mountain biking scene, adding another third place to his CV at the Canadian round of the UCI World Cup circuit. That year he improved on his third place finishes to get on the top step of the podium at Todtnau round in the iXS European Downhill Cup. Macdonald was born in Hawks Bay, New Zealand in 1991. As a junior, it was in the neighbouring country of Australia where Macdonald first alerted the mountain biking community of his talents. In the 2009 Junior World Championships, hosted by Canberra, the young New Zealander put in an impressive display on the hill and came away with the World Championship title. McDonald specialises in Downhill mountain biking and is known for his attacking riding style and never say die attitude on a course.
