For over 20 years, Bucky Lasek has been one of the world’s most consistent vert skateboarders. Amongst his achievements, he has won 19 X Games medals, including ten golds, and in 2000, he became the first skateboarder in X Games history to win gold in consecutive years, a feat he repeated in 2003 and 2004. After a nine-year gap, he once again won X Games vert gold in 2013, with victories at Foz do Iguacu, Munich, Los Angeles and Barcelona.
He also took first place overall in the Dew Tour Championships in 2009, and has been victorious at the Pro-Tec Pool Party and the Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding, among numerous other major competitions. And as if all that wasn’t enough, he also now drives professionally in the Global Rallycross series as a member of the Subaru PUMA team.
Bucky (real name Charles) grew up as an only child in Baltimore, Maryland. He first picked up a skateboard at the age of 12 after his bike was stolen, and was soon competing in amateur contests. After starring in the Powell Peralta video Public Domain in 1988, he turned professional in 1990 and quickly climbed the rankings.
Over his long career, Bucky has proved again and again that he is the fiercest and most composed of any competitor on the pipe. With his never-say-die attitude and a contest repertoire that includes more difficult tricks than any other skater in competition, combined with an uncanny ability to pull out a miracle when needed, he has dominated the vert scene.
