Cam McCaul is hailed as being one of the most inspiring mountain bike riders in recent years. The highlight of his rather large trophy cabinet is his first Crankworx victory in Colorado back in 2007. Getting to the top place of the podium would have felt even sweeter for Cam as he bettered his highly impressive second place finish the year previous.
His breakthrough year came in 2006. McCaul managed many inspiring displays, including victories at Nuremburg’s Red Bull Districtand and the Bearclaw Invitational in Vancouver.
McCaul was born in 1986 in Santa Cruz, California. It is surprising that he ended up on a bike at all, if his early exploits on two wheels are to be believed. As the story goes, McCaul got his first full suspension bike from Toys R Us as a child, but broke it after only two weeks after trying to land one trick too many. His parents bought him another, but the second bike would have the same fate as the first. His desire for mountain bike tricks didn’t end there and many years later he would enter the Race Face UFC video contest. He was awarded second place and it was rewarded by a professional contract with Fox Racing.
The Californian has been a regular fixture in the freeride, which he excels in due to his desire to land bigger and better tricks. His favourite trick is known to be the Cliff Hanger.
