Considered by most observers to be the first Australian rider to make a career out of BMX in the US, Colin Mackay has seen and done it all. Among the highlights in a career that has spanned more than a decade have been 13 appearances at the X Games since 1999 in both Park and Dirt disciplines, with a best finish overall of fourth in Dirt in 2005. After a two-year break, he came back in 2009 to finish 14th in Park.
He has also played a starring role on the Dew Tour, finishing ninth in Dirt in the year-end standings in 2006 and twelfth overall in Dirt in 2007. He has won numerous competitions, including the Street discipline at the 2002 Vans Triple Crown of BMX in Denver, Colorado and the Australian X Games in 1999. He now works as Team Manager for Haro Bikes.
Although he moved to the US in 1999, and has lived with many of today's best pro riders in Greenville, North Carolina since 2001, Colin hasn’t lost touch with his Australian roots, getting back to Brisbane whenever he can, and listing amongst his hobbies ‘having a coldy on a Friday night’.
He is a versatile rider in both park and dirt, with a unique style that can best be described as ‘fearless yet refined’. Despite retiring from the full-time pro tour, he is still performing miracles on a bike, now riding a Haro SD Dennis Enarson Sig. 21tt. He says his favourite tricks are tables, turndowns and cans.
