Young British downhill sensation Danny Hart has been competing on the World Cup circuit since 2008 with increasing success. In his first season, when he was just 16, he had a best result of 22nd at Vallnord, Andorra. The following year, he also won the Maxxis Cup in Vigo, Spain, and he continued his progress in 2010 with an eighth-placed finish overall in the World Cup. However, it was in 2011 that the Giant rider really hit the jackpot with his now-legendary run at the UCI Men's Downhill world championships. The rain-ravaged course in Champery, Switzerland had previously defeated some of the best riders in the world, but Danny took the title with a ride of such skill and flair that commentators struggled to find the superlatives to describe it. Born on 20th September 1991 in Middlesbrough, in the north-east of England, Danny was educated at Rye Hills School in Redcar. With the support of his parents, he raced motocross, BMX and cross country from an early age, receiving financial support from Redcar and Cleveland Young People's Trust. He won the 2007 youth national championship at Rheola, Wales, and turned pro the following year. Danny, described by bikeradar.com as ‘the most technically gifted and stylish racer in the world’, had scored three podium finishes and was fourth overall in the 2012 World Cup when a separated shoulder cut short his season, meaning he was unable to defend his world title. However, there is no doubt that he will return, better than ever.
