Elliot Sloan

25-year-old American Elliot Sloan hit the big time in 2013. Competing in the Big Air event, he took bronze at X Games Barcelona and silver at both Brazil and Munich, losing out to Bob Burnquist each time. His first X Games gold came at Los Angeles later in the year, where he denied Burnquist a clean sweep of all four of the year’s X Games Big Air events with a tail grab 720 and a tail grab 540. Prior to his X Games success, he had taken fifth place in the Megaramp Open at Woodward West in 2011, and later the same year, won gold in the Best Trick category at the Maloof Money Cup in South Africa. In 2012, he took second place on the Dew Tour in Mega 2.0. Born and raised in New York City, Elliot first started street skating at the age of 12, but was attracted to the Vert ramp at a nearby skatepark following Tony Hawk’s 900 and the rise of X Games. Following his father’s death, he dropped out of high school when he was 16 to work on a construction site, but he progressed rapidly on the amateur circuit, and was able to turn pro at 18. He landed his first 900 on a mini mega ramp in South Africa in October 2011 and has since landed the arguably even harder and more technical heelflip 720. Elliot may be the new kid on the block in Vert and Mega Ramp, but he is definitely the one to watch.
