Gary Young

After 13 X Games, California native Gary Young finally won his first X Games gold medal in BMX Park at X Games Barcelona 2013. In a hard-fought final, the veteran American's speed and flow through the park held off strong challenges from rivals Ryan Nyquist and Scotty Cranmer. Gary had previously won the bronze medal in the event in 2009 and 2010. Since turning pro in 2000, Gary has proved himself as a top rider in both Park and Dirt competitions, placing among the top ranks in almost every contest he’s entered. Away from the X Games, highlights includes gold medal finishes at the BMX Worlds and the Metro Jam. Born, raised and still living in San Diego, mild-mannered Gary first rode in 1992 and has been wowing crowds ever since. He has remained close to his family throughout his career, and says that they remain his biggest inspiration. When not riding or chilling out with his nearest and dearest, he has a wide-range of interests including travelling, reading books, playing video games and listening to music. He rides a bicycle with power and speed, employing a style variously described as ‘like a vehicle with the gas pedal stuck wide open’ or ‘riding without a brake’ - he certainly rides faster than most. Rather than fancy tricks, Gary concentrates on signature super-stylish lines, always fast, fluid and concrete-influenced. Above all, he lives by a philosophy that has served him well throughout his career - ‘without hard work, nothing happens’.
