John Parkin, together with his brother Rob, are the men behind the excellent DirtTV series of videos. In 2012, they expanded their operations by signing an agreement with the Enduro World Series to produce and broadcast online a feature-length highlights show in the week following each race. More than race highlights, the videos concentrate on storytelling, ensuring meaningful and entertaining coverage of this emerging discipline. What makes the Parkin brothers different from other mountain bike filmmakers is that they have on-the-bike experience. John competed in the Dragon Downhill series in Abercarn, Wales in 2004 and 2005, the Naked Racing 661 Mini Downhill in the Forest of Dean in 2010 and 2011, and the 2010 Northern Downhill Championships in the Kielder Forest. The decision of Enduro World Series organisers to get the Parkins on board was a wise move - their intimate knowledge of the sport, combined with some of the most up-to-date filming equipment around, makes for compulsive viewing, and has succeeded in presenting enduro to the world despite the format not obviously lending itself to live TV or spectating. As well as continuing to enter races themselves, the Parkins are also producing race weekend videos from all World Cup downhill events. Away from the world of mountain bikes, there is work in the pipeline on feature films and commercials, and even ambitious plans to conquer Hollywood - there is no doubt that both Parkin brothers will be keeping themselves busy over the coming years.
