Jolene Van Vugt
Jolene Van Vugt’s incredible list of accomplishments has established her as one of the most accomplished female athletes in action sports. In 2006, when she played a large part in creating the Canadian Women’s National Championships, a coast-to-coast national series that would mirror the opportunities of the WMA in the US - she commemorate the event by winning the series. In the same year, she also became the first female to backflip a full-sized dirt bike over a 60ft ramp to dirt, after guidance from her friend Travis Pastrana.
The milestone backflip and other stunts were all featured in Jolene’s popular Nitro Circus video series, and opened many doors for her, such as being the first female to take part in the Masters Of Dirt Freestyle Show in Austria. She was also featured in the MTV television show Nitro Circus.
Born in Ontario, Canada to Dutch immigrant parents, Jolene grew up heavily influenced by her father, who was himself an avid motocross racer. However, it wasn’t until the age of 11 that Jolene finally convinced him to buy her a bike. At the age of 14, she was given an ultimatum to either practice, race and take motocross seriously or give it up for good - fortunately for bike fans, she chose motocross.
Jolene is easily recognisable by her large smile, colourful personality and cheerfully positive outlook on life. Now styling herself as a ‘professional stuntwoman’, her latest feat is to break the world land speed record for the fastest motorised toilet - 75km/h.
