21-year-old Swedish star Kevin Backstrom is sponsored by Monster Energy, Nike, Skullcandy, and Rome Snowboards. He is a regular on the World Snowboard Tour, with a best overall finish of 18th in 2009/10.
In 2013, he put in some solid performances, including a top ten placing in Big Air at Vienna Fridge in November. However, his best result came in March with a third place finish at the Grandvalira Total Fight. The slopestyle started off with a rail zone, followed by a down box with a 5 metre gap or a wallride, followed by the line of three kickers - Kevin’s epic round featured a Gap Front Lip followed by a Backside 50-50 Front 180 Off, Cab 900 Melon and finished by a Back 720 Mute.
Kevin was born in Ulricehamn, Sweden on 16th July 1992. Influenced by his brother, he started snowboarding at the age of three in his home resort of Kläppen, and he was soon showing a prodigious talent. At the age of just 16, he entered the TTR 5 Star O’Neill Evolution slopestyle for the first time, and, racing against all his heroes, he finished in third place.
Riding with a regular stance, he focuses primarily on Slopestyle and Big Air - “I really like to hit jumps,” he says, “pipe isn’t really my thing.” He cites the apparently-casual Mikkel Bang as his biggest influence, and he names Bang’s 13 as his favourite video part of all time. He is currently working on BYND x MDLS with buddy Tor Lundstrom.
