23-year-old Czech freestyle rider Michael Beran has reached the finals of high profile contests including the BMX Masters and Vans Rebel Jam events, and challenged the best of the best at Red Bull Skylines and the FISE X BMX Pro contest in Paris. He also currently holds the title of Czech champion in both the Street and Mini disciplines. During the winter, he travels from Europe to the US where he trains at the world famous Woodward facility. He first raced competitively in the Czech Republic in 2004, when he finished in fourth place just behind the country’s top riders at Olomouc, and then finished third in the Czech Championships. In 2005, aged just 15, he attended the Freestyle World Championships - up against seasoned pros from around the world he finished a creditable 34th out of 80 entries. ‘Berry’, as he is known to his friends and fans, was born in 1989. As a child he tried hockey, football, basketball and judo, but none captured his interests like freestyle BMX. Indeed, he describes the moment he first saw a freestyle video as ‘life-changing’ and he was soon achieving astounding competition results. Berry specialises in box jumps and creating what he calls ‘sick’ new tricks, perfectly illustrated when he took top honours in the Best Trick contest at the 2010 Nike 6.0 BCN BMX Pro event in Barcelona, Spain, for a bikeflip to tailtap to tailwhip. And his second place in 2013’s Simple Session was thanks to an amazing 360 bikeflip to tailwhip.
