Riding for Star Valli Yamaha in 2012, American Dominic ‘Nico’ Izzi began the year looking like one of the most improved riders in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series. However, he was plagued by crashes during several of the motos and missed a number of races due to injury, and could only finish the year twelfth in 450MX points. Nico made his pro debut in the 2007 AMA outdoor nationals, riding to tenth overall in his first appearance at Millville. In 2008, his first full season, he finished fifth in season points in the 250 MX Class, earning himself the title of AMA Rookie of the Year. He currently represents the Rockstar Suzuki team, where he rides a 250 during the supercross season and a 450 outdoors. Nico is from the town of Rochester in Michigan, but now lives in Menifee, southern California. His father raced quads and bought young Nico his first bike when he was just three. Nico started racing locally the following year and first entered amateur national competitions at the age of eight. Before turning pro, he had racked up over 100 titles, including wins at the Loretta Lynn Air Nautiques Amateur National Championships. He is a supremely talented rider, whose ability to churn out consistently high finishes is unusual in a rider so young. Despite having to deal with illness and a number of serious injuries in his career so far, Nico’s aggressiveness and determination to win will ensure he continues to pick up podium finishes both indoors and out.
