Rune Glifberg

The ‘Great Dane’ Rune Glifberg is one of just three skaters to compete at every X Games. His first medal, a bronze, came in the Vert event in 1995, and he won back-to-back golds in Park in 2008 and 2009. He now holds a total of 12 X Games medals, including seven bronze, three silver and two gold. Since turning pro in 1992 at the age of 18, he has consistently placed in the top three in Vert contests, and has won at the Gravity Games, the World Cup, and the Mystic Cup. For much of the 2011 season he was hampered by injury, but a strong second at the Pro-Tec Pool Party in 2012, and more X Games medals in 2012 and 2013, have pointed to a recent return to form. Rune first started skating back in 1986 at the age of 11 in his hometown of Copenhagen, after being introduced to the sport by a friend, and he soon discovered his natural talent on the board. His big breakthrough came in 1996 when he was victorious at one of the biggest pro contests in skateboarding, the Slam City Jam. Widely recognized as one of the most advanced vert skaters in the world, Rune has a style other competitors make a point of watching. Despite being one of the oldest in the field, he can launch an all-out assault upon all kinds of situations, from low-key sessions in tight backyard pools and skateparks, to major contests in front of huge crowds on enormous halfpipes.
