Sam Beckett is considered one of the UK's top new school vert skaters. He hit the big time when he became the first skater from Great Britain to land the 720 on vert, and in 2008 he was crowned LG Amateur Action Sports World Champion in halfpipe skateboarding. He also finished second in X Games Vert Ams in both 2008 and 2009.
He has since turned pro and competes in numerous competitions on both sides of the Atlantic as often as he can. After finishing tenth at the ISF World Championships in 2010, he has starred on the Dew Tour in the USA, where he finished thirteenth in his rookie year of 2010. The following year, he followed up a solid performance at the Wellington Bowl-a-Rama in New Zealand with a fifth placed finish at the Copenhagen Pro Bowl Jam, and another thirteenth placed finish on the Dew Tour.
21-year-old Sam is from Norwich in the east of England. He started skating demos with Team Extreme in 2008 and was soon winning the UK vert series, beating numerous old pros in the process. However, with the nearest ramp more than two hours drive from his house, he found he could only skate a couple of times a week, so he has now made his base in California.
Pure style and power on the board, Sam can destroy anything with coping and transition. A technical skater who loves to do kickflips and backside Smith grinds, he also includes back-to-back 540s among his startling array of tricks.
