Belgium does not have much of a pedigree in snowsports. The country's highest point is 694m above sea level and there are no mountains. All this has not stopped Seppe Smits becoming one of Europe's best snowboarders. His first events were in the winter of the years 2006-2007, where he competed for the Europa Cup. He earned his first medal on November 22, 2008 in Stockholm, at a Big Air event. This was soon followed by a silver medal in Gangwon, a few months after in the World Championship. Slowly but surely Smits has risen up the ranks and his profile as grown as a result of his hard work and unrelenting practice. In the Air & Style festival of 2009, held in Innsbruck, he was winner of the Rookie Big Air competition. The year after, 2010, he participated in the 6-Star TTR event, held in Beijing on December 4 finishing in second place. His biggest finish came when he finished in third place in the Slopestyle event in Oslo, for the 2012 World Championship. Seppe has recently added the Cab 1440 to his impressive armoury of tricks. He nailed it with his customary style and grace at the 2011 Air & Style competition. He failed to win the contest, but in competing and matching some of the biggest names in the sport he announced himself to world.
