Rocky Mountain star Thomas Vanderham has been a mainstay in the sport of freeride mountain biking for over a decade. A self-proclaimed big mountain rider, he has placed in the top ten at every Red Bull Rampage ever held, and stood on the podium in 2008. Other competition highlights include a second place at Monster Park in 2004 and 2005, a place on the Canadian World Championship Team for downhill in 2002, and being named overall Whistler Crankworx champion in 2003. Although his riding continues to speak for itself, Thomas is also active in many other areas of the mountain bike community, coaching bike camps and clinics all over the world, writing magazine columns, and working with sponsors on research, development and marketing projects. His goal, he says, is simply ‘to inspire people to ride their bikes’. Born on 30th April 1984 in North Vancouver, Canada, Thomas (or ‘The Kid’ as he is often known) began cycling at the age of ten after he caught the bug from a neighbour who raced regularly. “I used to ride up and down my street all day doing wheelies,” he says. “You have to start somewhere!” He forged his unique style on a mountain bike and his love for the sport by riding the infamous North Shore of Vancouver, and, by the age of 15, he was already making his first film appearances. To this day, he still regards his priority each year as filming, with groundbreaking headline movie segments including The Collective, Roam, and New World Disorder 5 and 6.
