28-year-old Frenchman Tom Pages was crowned Red Bull X Fighters World Tour Champion for 2013 following a heart-stopping performance in Madrid during which he dug deep into his bag of tricks. Tom epitomised consistency all season, also winning the season opener in Mexico City and getting on the podium in all five events.
In November 2007, Tom became the first person to land a double grab backflip on dirt, and the following year he and his older brother Charles, also a pro freestyle rider, were the first riders to catch frontflips on film. In 2009, he also became the first person to ever attempt a frontflip in a freestyle competition at the X-Fighters tour stop in Fort Worth, Texas. HIs first success on the X Fighters tour came in 2012, when he won in Munich and came second overall.
He started out riding BMXs, and unusually didn’t ride his first motorbike until he was fifteen years old. However, he progressed quickly, and after his first freestyle show at La Bosse de Bretagne in July 2005, he soon became a major star on the freestyle scene.
Tom is undoubtedly a supremely talented rider. After taking a three-year break from the sport in 2009, he at first refused to do any upside down tricks such as backflips, but he still impressed with a rich arsenal of spectacular moves including his personal favourites - the Volt (a mid-air 360-degree spin off his bike) and the Special Flip (a mid-air backflip above his seat).
