There are many neat tricks one can do while riding a motocross bike, one of these tricks is called a whip. The goal in this trick is to get the bike parallel to the ground while in the air.

When hitting a jump the rider uses his body to kick the bike sideways off the face of the jump, and then the rider lets the momentum bring the bike back straight for a safe landing. While in the air the rider leans back to point the bike towards the side of the jump instead of the landing. The rider needs to know what it feels like when the bike needs to come back straight and if the rider has left the face of the jump properly, and has leaned properly, then the momentum of the bike will straighten itself out.

Whips are possible on almost every kind of jump, and one advantage of whipping your bike in a race is it keeps you lower to the ground, so you are back on the ground and on the gas sooner. The less time in the air means more time to beat your opponents. This is a beautiful trick that any motocross rider can appreciate and respect when it is well done.
