You can do a tailwhip on a BMX bike or a Mountain bike. The trick is the same, but will be more difficult with a mountain bike because of the weight difference. The tailwhip is an aerial trick... so being able to jump and land using a ramp or hill is a must for this trick.
1. Use a jump you can get good height on before landing.
2. As you are jumping, use your front foot to kick the body of the bike away from you. Move your rear leg out of the way. Hold onto the handlebars.
3. Rotate your arms in a circular motion to spin the body of the bike all the way around you.
4. Catch the body of the bike as it comes around with your legs. Put your feet back on the pedals or on the crank arms.
5. Land the jump.
