KINGS OF THE CASTLE Artem Silchenko wins final in Ukraine, Gary Hunt receives 2011 overall title Three 10s for one dive and more than 500 points in total – Artem Silchenko broke a personal and a World Series record at the grand final of the 2011 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Yalta, Ukraine. At the seventh and culminating competition, the Russian made it to the top of the podium for the first time this year, beating the reigning World Series champion Gary Hunt (GBR) by more than 50 points. With today’s victory, he secured his second overall place in front of 15,000 fans on boats, rocks and the beach surrounding Swallow’s Nest castle. Third today and overall finished Czech diver Michal Navratil. From the remote Island of Rapa Nui to Central and North America and back to Europe - a season of the unexpected saw a great showdown on the Crimean peninsula, where the ‘brilliant Brit’ Gary Hunt defended his overall title and only the top six high divers pre-qualified for next season. A qualification competition at the beginning of next year will decide the participants for 2012.

Gary Hunt wins penultimate stop of Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 in Boston A big cheering crowd, high level diving and a double touch down - Boston Harbour was the perfect setting for another glorious victory for English diver Gary Hunt, who secured his second overall World Series title today with a fourth consecutive win. In his homeland, American Kent De Mond came back to the podium after a hard season with only 2.15 points separating him and second-placed Artem Silchenko, from Russia. This Saturday, cliff diving went urban: Instead of natural cliffs, divers used the newly-installed platform on the cantilever roof of the Institute of Contemporary Art on Fan Pier, which is more than 80 feet above the water, for the tour’s sixth stop. A stoked crowd of 23.000 spectators surrounding the area around the venue watched the first East Coast stop in the United States in the Series’ three-year history.

CLOSE COMPETITION AND CLOSED ROADS Hunt collects Italian victory in Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011. It was an armada of motorboats and surfboards, and spectators on the surrounding beach that saw the closest battle this season. Reigning champion Gary Hunt had the honour of being awarded winner of this Sunday’s competition round of the 2011 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Italy, ahead of Russia’s Artem Silchenko and Czech diver Michal Navratil. The Scaliger Castle in Malcesine was the impressive location for the fifth stop and enticed 15.000 enthusiastic spectators to the Lake Garda hot spot. In the overall standings, the Brit pulls further ahead but leaves the fight for the successive positions tight. For the penultimate stop on August 20 the World Series will leap over the Atlantic Ocean to Boston, US.

‘Brilliant Brit’ takes second consecutive win in France 70,000 spectators, winds up to 60kph and 12 athletes competitive to the core – La Rochelle added a few more superlatives to its collection during the 4th stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, while Gary Hunt (GBR) lead the dozen of high divers who defied the harsh conditions in the early evening hours on Saturday, June 18. Friday prevented take-off from the 27.5m platform and thus the competition was decided in three rounds. The venue in the Bay of Biscay staged the midway stop of the 2011 edition, presented a new face on the podium – Alain Kohl from Luxembourg made his first appearance in the top three and followed Michal Navratil in third place – and stirred up the overall standings. Reigning champion Hunt pulls further ahead in the overall rankings and leads the Series into the second half.

Gary Hunt repeats his Greece victory of 2009 It was Englishman Gary Hunt who left his personal mark on Greek soil by winning the third stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 in Athens on Sunday afternoon. Lake Vouliagmeni was the venue where the 26-year-old took his first season victory and repeated his win in the 2009 final. With a whiff of the Olympic spirit omnipresent, Czech Michal Navratil made the extra step to the podium and finished third in front of more than 9,000 enthusiastic spectators and Artem Silchenko completed the top spots in position two. The midway stop of the 2011 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will take place in La Rochelle, France, on June 18, 2011.
