Action sports athlete Alana Blanchard is known for her golden-haired good looks and skimpy bathing suits. She is known for all she’s accomplished in the male-dominated world of professional surfing. But most of all, she is known for the fact that she can tackle the most intimidating wave with the fierceness of a shark and master it with the grace of a dolphin. Born March 5th, 1990 in beautiful Kauai, Hawaii’s oldest main island, Alana was fated to be drawn to the water. But when her father, Holt Blanchard, gave his baby girl her first surfing lesson at the age of 4, he probably had no idea that she would be a professional surfer in little over a decade. Known for her powerful frontside bottom turns, Alana has been featured in many sports magazines and internet blogs. But her quirky island-girl style and dedication to the sport of professional surfing has created a stir in the pages of non-sports related publications such as Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair, putting a recognisable face on the less publicised world of women’s surfing. While still an amateur, Alana caught the eye of many sponsors who knew a good thing when they saw it. She’s currently sponsored by Rip Curl, Spy, Reef, Sticky Bumps and Channel Islands.
Alana Blanchard- Career Highlights
By the age of 15, Alana was dominating the competition despite the fact that she was often one of the younger competitors. She powered her way to first place in the 2005 T&C Women’s Pipeline Championships. That same year she also won first place in the HASA State Championships and the Rip Curl Grom Search Nationals as well as placing 2nd or 3rd in many other competitions. These achievements earned Alana the 2005 Triple Crown Rookie Of The Year award. In the years to follow, Alana continued to make her mark on the professional women’s surfing scene, securing first place wins in competitions like the Volcom Pufferfish Surf Series, the Roxy Pro Trials, and the Billabong Pro and Pre Trials. In 2008, Alana placed in World Qualifying Series. She is currently preparing for the 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour.
