Chad Reed's career began in his home country of Australia in the late 90's. Reed emerged as the country's top rider, winning two AMA Supercross championships in his home country by the time he was 18 years old. Reed traveled to the United Sates when he was 19 and made an immediate impact in 250cc division, finishing second.
Reed assimilated to the United States Motocross and Supercross series immediately and was on his way to the legendary status until James Stewart arrived on the scene. The rivalry between the two was contentious from the start. Reed defending his title against the young phenom Stewart was not only great racing, it was riveting drama.
Reed's career may have been more prolific if Stewart had never been there to take away victories. Still, Reed's name was always mentioned in the same breath as Stewart. The two not only rode against each other with dogged determination, they were involved in more than a few physical altercations on track and off.
Reed's life away from the track is much more peaceful. Reed's hobbies include cycling, water sports of any kind and of course riding motorcycles for the pure enjoyment of it. Reed's favorite place to ride is in the mountains of Southern California, especially after a nice downpour of ran.
Reed's career of late has been slowed because of an array of injuries that tend to catch up with motocross riders over time. Reed's current health issue is not related to riding. He is dealing with a virus that has left him weak and unable to ride. He is sitting out of any further races until the 2011 Supercross season. Reed said in his blog, Getting well is my number one priority right now, I have to be healthy and ready for the 2011 AMA Supercross."
