A special rider that transcends the sport, Stewart has no fear when challenged with other competitions such as the ESPN X Games. When invited, he did not hesitate to participate in the most recent X Games, finishing second in the X Games competition, "Best Whip."
With the title of world's best rider comes unrealistic expectations. When Stewart does not win a moto or a Supercross main event, the fans and his fellow riders wonder aloud what is wrong with him.
Over the last year Stewart has experienced some backlash from fans that feel he has gone too "Hollywood" by having his own television show, Bubba's World, on Fuel TV. Always a fan favorite since exploding onto the AMA scene at the age of 17, Stewart now hears a smattering of boos along with the cheers at rider introductions.
Stewart wins over most of his fans by his ability on his bike. He is a wild, aggressive rider that never backs off, even when leading by a large margin. This has led to spectacular accidents while leading by over half a lap in some instances.
As for the critical hole shot at the start of a moto or main, he is always at or near the front as the field enters the first turn. Even when Stewart meets with disaster at the start of a race, he is at his best when coming from the back of the pack.
James Stewart's Career Highlights
Aside from James "Bubba" Stewart's amazing accomplishment of winning every moto in the outdoor AMA Motocross National series, Stewart has won two Supercross titles in 2007 and 2009. Over his stellar AMA career he has had difficulty staying healthy for a full season.
The aggressive style of Stewart lends itself to an array of injuries, from broken wrists to bad knees. Spending almost half of his career on the sidelines mending from the injuries has slowed what could have been a run of Ricky Carmichael type proportions.
As the 2011 Supercross season nears, Stewart has withdrawn from the outdoor AMA Motocross National series, to prepare for the first Supercross race, Anaheim 1 in January.
