Much of Pearce's success began in the year 2007 and continued throughout most of 2008. He participated in and won many different snowboarding competitions during those years. He also received a few silver medals and a bronze medal at the Winter X Games in 2008, and went on to place a silver medal in 2009. Pearce was well on his way to joining the American team at
the Winter Olympics in 2010.
Unfortunately, the end of the year 2009 brought some bad luck for Pearce. While training for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Pearce was critically injured during practice when he hit his head on the side of the halfpipe, causing him to obtain traumatic brain injuries. Fortunately he was wearing a helmet, and thanks to a number of surgeries and different therapies, Pearce is well on his way to making a full recovery. In fact, he was recently interviewed on the Today Show, where he commented that he is excited to get back on a
snowboard soon.
Kevin Pearce's Career Highlights
Pearce won The Arctic Challenge in 2007, which is a snowboarding event held in Norway each year. During that same year he won the Nokia Air & Style competition, a European snowboarding annual contest. In 2008, he went on to win The Arctic Challenge again, as well as the Billabong Air & Style, making him the first man to win two different Air & Style competitions within the
same season. Also in the 2007-2008 season, Pearce became the champion of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour.
However, his honors and accolades did not stop there. In 2008, Pearce not only became the first athlete in the history of the X Games to compete in three medal events in one day, but he also happened to win two silver medals at the Winter X Games XII in the Big Air and Slopestyle, and a bronze in the Superpipe competition. Determined to improve, in 2009 he brought home a silver medal in the Superpipe.
