Shortly after graduating from high school, Mark Appleyard had set out on his career path: to become one of the world's most renowned skateboarders. He began by appearing all over Toronto's skate parks. It was then that Mark's career really took off. He earned sponsorships from Shorty's, Habitat and Flip Skateboards. With the backing of sponsors, he was able to pursue skating full time. Then in 2003, at the age of 20, he was recognized by Thrasher Magazine as the skater of the year.
After winning skater of the year, Mark Appleyard's popularity skyrocketed and Mark gained sponsorships from several large companies such as Boost Mobile, Volcom, and Globe. At the time, Mark was participating in many skating videos and appearing in numerous magazines. This resulted in him being proclaimed skater of the year by both Thrasher Magazine and Transworld Skateboarding.
Since gaining his tremendous fame, Mark has moved to Huntington, California. He has been living there since 1999 and frequents the Volcom Skatepark which is only twenty minutes from his home. In addition to skateboarding, Appleyard has taken a great interest in photography in the past few years. In a recent interview, he said that creating a photobook was one of his new life goals.
Despite being considered one of the top skaters of the new millennium, being named skater of the year several times and participating in countless skate projects, Mark, staying true to his roots, says that he will continue to skate until the day he dies.
