toddled his way onto one of his dad's skateboards. By the age of four, he was already doing simple tricks on his board. In 1997, Sheckler, who was only seven, entered and won his first California Amateur Skateboarding League (CASL) State Championship. He went on to win the CASL state championship again and again, for a total of five straight years.
In 2003, at the age of 13, Sheckler turned pro and entered his first Summer X Games and immediately let everyone know that he was a force to be reckoned with by winning the gold medal and being the only competitor in the Street category to land every single trick he tried. Sheckler also became the youngest competitor to ever win a gold medal at the X Games. From then on, Sheckler brought home one award or title after another, including two more X Game gold medals.
By 2007, Sheckler's youth, success and good looks had caught more than just the skateboarding world's eye. MTV decided to create a reality TV show around him called, The Life of Ryan, which ran until 2009.
In 2009, an injury to Sheckler's ankle that occurred during the X Games had a negative effect on his entire season, but in the summer of 2010, Sheckler showed everyone that he was healed and as talented as ever when he captured his third X Games gold medal. Additionally, in 2010, Sheckler once again proved his popularity by winning the award for Favorite Male Athlete at the Teen Choice Awards.

Some of Sheckler's many awards include five straight CASL state championships from 1997 through 2001.
In 2003, he won his first X Game gold medal, first places at the Gravity Games, Vans Triple Crown and Slam City Jam competitions.
In 2005, Sheckler was named the Action Sports Tours (AST) Athlete of the Year and World Cup of Skateboarding's overall Street Champion.
In 2006, Sheckler was named Arby's Action Sports Awards' Skateboarder and Athlete of the Year. He was also the overall Park Champion in the Action Sports Tour.
In 2007, Sheckler won another AST Championship, his third in a row.
In 2008, Sheckler won his second X Games gold medal.
In 2010, Sheckler won his third X Games gold medal.
