The rail slide has become a staple in skateboarding, skiing and snowboarding. It is also the beginning of many an epic wipe-out. This instalment is going to focus on the snowboard rail slides.
Find a rail. To prevent yourself from becoming a wipe-out superstar, find some smaller rails that are surrounded by nothing but snow as you get more comfortable with this trick.
Approach the rail with a moderate and controlled amount of speed. Before attempting the slide practice your ollie to the side of it to get comfortable with the height and contact point. Then ollie onto the rail.
There are many ways to rail slide. It is best to start off with your board either perpendicular or parallel to the rail. As you ollie and position your board to the rail, extend your board down to the rail as slowly as possible. This will help you maintain balance and adjust to the speed. Different surfaces have different speeds.
To exit the rail slide, hop up slightly, land and ride triumphantly away.
