World Snowboarding Championships Quarterpipe Finals - Gittler, Hanson and Terje Haakonsen

The World Snowboarding Championships is in full swing in Oslo, Norway where the quarterpipe event went off at the Holmenkollen Ski Jump stadium tonight. The competition featured a unique format that awarded riders for three different categories: best overall rider, highest air and best trick. Riders were reaching speeds of over 70 km/h on the in-run to the 10.5-meter quaterpipe. It was French rider Oliver Gittler who took the overall victory, Norwegian Kim Rune Hansen won best trick and Terje Haakonsen claimed the highest air of the night. The contest kicked off with a semi-final round where a field of 20 riders was knocked down to 8 finalists who had five runs with the best three counting towards the overall title. Judges were looking at a combination of amplitude and style and Oliver Gittler's consistent and large McTwists earned him $30,000 USD for the overall best rider of the night. Norwegian rider, Kim Rune Hansen, took second place overall with some nicely controlled huge backside airs, but impressed the crowd and the judges with his double backside rodeo to take the best trick award and $15,000 USD. And, it was snowboarding legend, Terje Haakonsen, who claimed the $20,000 USD for the lofty 7.7-meter method he threw down on the quaterpipe.

DRAMA and GLORY! Under brazenly perfect weather conditions, the international freestyle community celebrated the ninth edition of the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam in the Horsefeathers Superpark Dachstein one of the best ones ever! At an unprecedented level, the snowboard elite was battling for the victory of this Swatch TTR 4 star contest in the perfectly shaped park. After a two day trick fireworks, the Belgian Seppe Smits and Aimee Fuller from Great Britain were smiling down from the top of the podium as winners of the Super Finals. The only 19-year old Matthias Weissenberger caused a sensation in reaching the third rank!

Final Day at the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam 2011! Nothing but good times again and a riding level that was just over the top! The ones who made it into the superfinals had to find the perfect mixture between well chosen style and technique manouvers. Seppe Smits took it home in the end, closely followed by Niklas Mattson from Sweden and Matthias Weissenbacher from Austria. Bei traumhaften Spätsommerwetter genossen an diesem Wochenende bei 32'000 Besucher Freestylesport vom Feinsten - freestyle.ch at its best! Bei den Snowboardern dominierten die jungen Wilden, wobei der Isländer Halldor Helgason den Contest für sich entscheiden konnte. In der Szene vor allem für seinen Style bekannt, überzeugt er die Judges in Zürich mit einem Frontside Double Cork 1080°. Zweiter und Dritter wurden Seppe Smits (BEL) und Ståle Sandbech (NOR).

At WinSport Canada's Canada Olympic Park in the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup halfpipe finals, Japanese rider Ryo Aono won the men's contest with 28.3 points. Australian rider Nathan Johnstone came in a close second and Yiwei Zhang of China finished in third place.
