Hiking Ben Nevis is no small feat. There are always tales of people trying to casually wander up the highest peak in Great Britain, only to find themselves stranded in a blizzard in just a t-shirt, wondering what they’ve got themselves into.

The guy that tried to walk up Ben Nevis in flip flops springs to mind.

“I was that tit all proper climbers talk about”

Well, 28 year-old Sarah Albone just joined this list of silly hikers after she attempted climbing the 4,411ft peak in shorts, trainers and carrying a selfie stick. She was found by two climbers, soaked and suffering from hypothermia.

She was on a mountain biking trip in Scotland when she spontaneously decided to climb the mountain alone without proper equipment. The hikers that found her called her attempt “ridiculous” and said she could have died.

Even Sarah herself admitted that she was a “massive pr*ck” for attempting to climb the mountain.

“I was that tit all proper climbers talk about. No ice pick/poles/shelter any of the things that are appropriate for climbing a mountain. Just the stuff I had packed for the weekend and a stupid selfie stick,” she told the Daily Mail.

Reports say temperatures had dropped to -15°C with wind chill. A rescue helicopter was unable to reach Sarah and her rescuers due to high winds and fog, so three climbers came up to get the woman from Brighton down to safety.

“I don’t know what your respective local pubs are but let me know… I’d at least like to phone through and leave a drink behind the bar, having tried and failed yesterday at the Ben Nevis. Pretty sure this is obligatory when someone saves your life, right?”

Moral of the story, people? Use your noggin and wear a coat and hiking boots. Shorts and selfie sticks aren’t gonna cut it.
