The Drone Footage Of This Abandoned City Will Leave You Absolutely Stunned

The Ukranian city of Prypiat was abandoned 28 years ago after a nuclear disaster nearby...

Drones are becoming all the range these days for one simple reason – they provide some truly stunning footage when put to good use.

Take the video above for example. It’s a feature on the abandoned city of Prypiat in Ukraine, and it really is breathtaking.

The city – which had 50,000 residents at the time – was evacuated in 1986 after the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded in a nuclear disaster. The area was subsequently left so contaminated that it was deemed completely uninhabitable for the next 20,000 years.

The film above was shot by Danny Cooke using a DJI Phantom 2, GoPro3+, and Canon 7D while working for CBS News in the area. It truly is a sight to behold.

“Chernobyl is one of the most interesting and dangerous places I’ve been,” said Cooke. “I can’t imagine how terrifying it would have been for the hundreds of thousands of locals who evacuated the city.

“There was something serene, yet highly disturbing about this place. Time has stood still and there were memories of past happenings floating all around us.”

This overbearing feel is certainly captured in the film, so take three minutes out of your day and you certainly won’t regret it.
