Does Looking At Girls’ Bums Make You Want To Buy Sandals? Reef Hopes So

Playboy has stopped showing naked women but we still have ass calendars…

The year is 2015. Brands, for the most part, have stopped objectifying women in their marketing campaigns, having realised that alienating half of their potential buyers isn’t the smartest thing to do. Hell Playboy has even stopped publishing in their words “outdated” photos of naked women.

So it comes as a surprise to see Reef is still banging that drum with their 2016 calendar and accompanying video still wholly focused on women’s bums with nary a face shot in sight, though there is a close up of some lips and a side boob at one point.

At least they’re not wearing string bikinis as per the late 90s and early 00s campaigns, which adorned many a surfer guys’ wall, and made girls wonder if surfing really was for them or just a sleazy bro fest.

It’s also stylishly shot with some nice tropical backdrops and tellingly this campaign was shot by a woman, perhaps in the hope of defending any accusations of sexism. But there still just seems something creepy about a camera following a women’s ass around, as Jessica Valenti pointed out in the Guardian yesterday.

But enough from us, what do you think?
