FIM MX World Championships Portugal: The battle is ON

Rarely do you find such precocious young talent leading the way at worlds level, but this year motocross’ MX2 category has not one but two teenage sensations showing the old guard how it’s done. Ken Roczen and Jeffrey Herlings should be at school taking lessons not tearing around tracks dishing them out. It’s a funny old world.

Coming into this race there were few who’d put money on anything other than a Roczen win but in the words of the legend Stefan Everts, ‘strange things happen at Agueda’. And happen they did as Roczen took a heavy slam in the second moto handing the series lead to teammate and bitter rival Jeffrey Herlings as he took his third overall victory of the season. Great Britain’s Tommy Searle remained in with a shout of the series by nailing a second place in moto two, despite a nightmare in moto one which saw the 21 year-old getting caught up in safety netting while battling with teammate Max Anstie for third place. The riders have a mere five days to recover and refocus before taking on La Bazena in Spain.
